Haochen Zhang, Nobuyuki Tsujii Tie for Awesome

Haochen Zhang, Nobuyuki Tsujii Tie for Awesome

I cannot describe the glorious feeling of seeing the two youngest competitors come out of Cliburn, a competition that takes place only once every four years, in victory. Zhang (19) and Tsujii (20) are undoubtedly talented, but their restraint and discipline are something else. When asked to describe his time in Dallas, Zhang replies, “The living condition has been great. I’ve spent all my time practicing in my hotel room.” And when asked about his ambition to place, he nonchalantly answers, “It’s not important at all. What’s important is to continually play and improve.” I saw his face. He meant it.

By the way, if any of you gals are as awestruck with Haochen as I am, you’ll be glad to learn, he very much enjoys his KFC – dark meat. His tour schedule will be posted soon so look out for that.

On a separate note, Fort Worth is a beautiful city with so much character. The Bass Performance Hall has certainly established itself as a cultural centerpiece. An architectural gem with equally riveting performances inside. I cannot emphasize enough the urgency for everyone to stop by.

Congratulations again to the two virtuosos!
