Dallas Bursting with Art Life

Origami hall at Crow's

This past weekend, the Dallas Arts District opened its arms to the local community with a free CityArts Celebration. Even with the deterrence of 100°F weather, families came out in abundance. Rows of local artists lined the streets leading up to the Dallas Museum of Art. All museums were open to the public, vendors sold and gave away their products, cultural dancers took the stage. It was an afternoon primed for good old-fashioned fun. Seattle’s Best Coffee gave away free iced coffee. Genius really. TXU featured free face-paint artists. I was very close to getting a batman mask on my face. I also had a large funnel cake for $5!
Despite the free incentive for museum entry, the crowd wasn’t too bad. The Crow Collection of Asian Art had an impressive collection for adults and Cambodian-jewelry making and origami for the kids/adults.

Nasher Sculpture Center garden

The Nasher Sculpture Center‘s best attribute is its opulent space. Exhibit rooms are accented with cool walls and gorgeous glass doors. The garden alternates between zen and decadent art. If it weren’t for the sweltering heat, a nice lunch in the sitting area would’ve been ideal.

Art Festival or not, try to plan a trip there soon. There is much to see and much more to experience. And remember, the Dart Rail is always available. $3 regular all-day fare and $1.50 for students and children.
